Instructions for how to make Kara Chutney:
- Firstly, heat 2 tsp oil in a pan/wok and then add urad dal and chana dal to it. Roast them on low flame.
- Add dried red chili to it. Roast till the dal turns slightly golden brown.
- Then add onions and garlic to it. Saute them till the onions changes its colour.
- Add tomatoes to it.
- Add salt to it. Mix them well.
- Cook them till the tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
- Cool the mixture completely and transfer it to the blender jar.
- Add tamarind water to it.
- Blend it to smooth paste and transfer in a serving bowl.
- For preparing its tempering, heat 1 tsp oil in a pan and then add mustard seeds to it.
- Add curry leaves to it. Let them splutter.
- Pour the tempering over chutney and mix well.
