Instructions for How to make Yellow Dal Fry/tadka:
- Firstly, take both the dals (moong and toor) in a bowl and wash thoroughly.
- Soak the dal in water for 10-15 minutes.
- Add 1 tsp of ghee in a pressure cooker.
- Add soaked dal to it.
- Roast it for 2-3 minutes.
- Add 2 cups of water to it.
- Add 1tsp of salt and 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder to it.
- Pressure cook for 1 whistle then turn off the flame and keep it aside till it releases all its pressure.
- Now, lets prepare its tadka. Take a pan/wok add 1 tbsp of ghee and then add dry red chilies.
- Add cumin seeds to it.
- Add onion to it and saute it till golden brown.
- Add ginger and green chilies to it.
- Add tomatoes and salt to it. Cook it till tomatoes turns soft and mushy. (Remember here you have already added in dal also).
- Add red chili powder to it. You can use Kashmiri red chili powder also.
- Add 1/2 cup of water to it.
- Bring 2-3 boils in a water.
- Open the cooker. Dal is ready.
- Add tadka to the dal.
- Add garam masala to it.
- Punjabi yellow dal tadka is ready to serve. Garnish it with fresh coriander leaves and serve it with chapati/ Indian breads or rice.

Tips:
- Adding moong dal with toor dal helps to give it good texture. You can add masoor dal also instead of moong dal.
- Tempering with ghee will enhance the flavour of dal.
