Yellow Dal tadka is a simple and quick lentil based curry recipe. Recipes made with dal/ lentil is very common across India. When you wish to eat something light yet delicious then try this recipe, which is served with both chapati or rice. It goes best with jeera rice. This recipe is very famous in Punjabi dhaba's / restaurants. Here are the step by step instructions and photos.
Ingredients Preview.
Firstly, take both the dals (moong and toor) in a bowl and wash thoroughly.
Soak the dal in water for 10-15 minutes.
Add 1 tsp of ghee in a pressure cooker.
Add soaked dal to it.
Roast it for 2-3 minutes.
Add 2 cups of water to it.
Add 1tsp of salt and 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder to it.
Pressure cook for 1 whistle then turn off the flame and keep it aside till it releases all its pressure.
Now, lets prepare its tadka. Take a pan/wok add 1 tbsp of ghee and then add dry red chilies.
Add cumin seeds to it.
Add onion to it and saute it till golden brown.
Add ginger and green chilies to it.
Add tomatoes and salt to it. Cook it till tomatoes turns soft and mushy.
(Remember here you have already added in dal also).
Add red chili powder to it. You can use Kashmiri red chili powder also.
Add 1/2 cup of water to it.
Bring 2-3 boils in a water.
Open the cooker. Dal is ready.
Add tadka to the dal.
Add garam masala to it.
Punjabi yellow dal tadka is ready to serve. Garnish it with fresh coriander leaves and serve it with chapati/ Indian breads or rice.
