Sweet Potato Chaat is a very filling and flavorful vegetarian appetizer or snack, prepared with roasted or steamed sweet potatoes, onion, few spices, lemon juice and chaat chutneys. This chaat recipe is healthy also as sweet potatoes are rich in dietary fibre and great sources of potassium, magnesium, and calcium. It is very easy and quick recipe. Here is the recipe with step by step instructions and pictures.
1. Firstly rinse 3 sweet potatoes very well in water. Then steam them in a microwave for 5-6 minutes, or in a pressure cooker for about 3 to 4 whistles with water just about covering the sweet potatoes. I always prefer to steam them in a microwave. After the sweet potatoes are cooked well and they are little warm, then peel them and chop them into chunks.
2. Then heat 2 tsp oil in a pan/ kadai and add sweet potato chunks to it. Start roasting them for 4-5 minutes on low flame.
3. Toss them gently, so that shakarkandi chunks will roast slightly from all sides.
4. Next, take 2 tbsp finely chopped onion and 2 tbsp finely chopped fresh green coriander and 1 finely chopped green chili in a large mixing bowl, and then add the roasted sweet potato chunks to it.
5. Now add 1/3 tsp black salt, 1/4 tsp or salt to taste, 1/2 tsp chaat masala, 1/3 tsp red chili powder and 1/2 tsp roasted cumin powder to it.
6. Then add 2 tsp lemon juice, 2 tsp green chutney and 2 tsp tamarind chutney to it.
7. Mix all the ingredients really well with the help of fork gently. Taste and check at this point and add any of the spice powders or lemon juice or chutneys if required.
8. Transfer the chaat to a serving plate and garnish it with pomegranate seeds. Chatpati healthy Sweet Potato Chaat is ready to serve. Enjoy!
