The traditional namkeen (or salty) form of lassi is very popular in Punjab and North India. It is prepared by blending dahi (yogurt) with water, black salt, salt, roasted cumin powder and mint. The resulting beverage is known as salted lassi. It is a perfect mix of health and taste. Lassi helps in digestion as it contains lactobacillus, which lubricates the intestines and smoothens the whole process of digestion. It is also an excellent source of probiotics and ensures proper well being and health of the person. Here is the recipe with some tips and step by step instructions and pictures.
1. Firstly, take 1.5 cups chilled curd/ dahi / plain yogurt.
2. Then transfer it to the blender jar.
3. Next add 10 fresh mint leaves to it.
4. Then add 3/4 tsp roasted cumin powder, 1/4 tsp ground black pepper, 1/4 tsp salt and 1/3 tsp black salt to it.
5. Add 1/2 cup of water and blend to thick frothy later on top.
6. Then add 1 more cup of water and few ice-cubes to it. If you want to make it like Chaas then add 1/2 cup more water to it.
7. Blend it again and Namkeen Lassi is ready.
8. Take 2 serving glasses and pour the lassi into them.
9. Garnish with roasted cumin powder and mint leaves.
10. Refreshing chilled Salted Lassi is ready to serve. Enjoy!
