Paneer Bhurji is a popular and delicious North Indian recipe, which is made from crumbled Paneer/ Cottage Cheese. It is very simple and easy to prepare. In this recipe, the crumbled paneer/ cottage cheese is added to sautéed onions, tomatoes and spices. This recipe is for everyone as everyone in the family elders to kids enjoy this curry. Here is the recipe with some tips and step by step instructions and pictures.
1. Ingredients Preview.
2. In a pan/ kadai heat 1.5 tbsp oil. Add cumin seeds to it and let them splutter.
3. Add 1 chopped onion to it and sauté till they become translucent.
4. Then add 1 finely chopped green chili, 1 tbsp finely chopped green bell pepper/ capsicum and 1 tsp ginger paste or grated ginger.
5. Next, add 1 chopped tomato and 1 tsp or salt to taste.
6. Sauté till they turn soft and mushy.
7. Add 1/2 tsp red chili powder, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder and 1 tsp coriander cumin powder to it. Mix well all the spices and roast them for a minute.
8. Add 200gm or 1 cup crumbled Paneer/ cottage cheese and 2 tbsp chopped fresh coriander leaves to it.
9. Mix gently without mashing out the paneer.
10. Cover and cook for 2 minutes, so that paneer will absorb all the flavours. Do not over cook paneer, as it turns hard and chewy.
11. Add 1/4 tsp garam masala to it. You can also add 1 tsp crushed Kasuri Methi if you want.
12. Mix gently and Paneer Bhurji is ready to serve.
13. Enjoy hot Paneer Bhurji with chapati, plain paratha or Kulcha.
