Peas Pulao is very simple, easy and quick recipe, prepared with basmati rice, green peas and few whole spices. It can be served with any raita or a simple curry or dal. It is a sweet aromatic matar pulav, which is not too spicy. This recipe contains no onion and no garlic, rather it is a vegan and gluten free recipe. Here is the recipe with step by step instructions and pictures.
1. Ingredients Preview.
2. Firstly, take 1 cup/glass basmati rice in a bowl and wash them 2-3 times and then soak for 10 mins.
3. In a pressure cooker, heat 1 tbsp oil/ ghee and add 1 bay leaf, 2 dry red chili, 2 green cardamom, 2-3 cloves and 1 tsp cumin seeds to it. Sauté till they turn aromatic.
4. Then add 8-10 whole cashew nuts and roast them for a minute.
5. Add 3/4 cup green peas and sauté well. I have used frozen peas. You can use fresh peas also.
6. Now, add soaked basmati rice and sauté gently.
7. Add salt to taste.
8. Add 1.5 cups/glasses of water. Always add 1.5 cups of water to 1 cup of basmati rice if you are preparing rice in pressure cooker. If you are preparing them in Kadai/Pan then add 2 cups of water.
9. Pressure cook for 1 whistle on medium flame. If you are preparing in Kadai/pan then tightly cover the kadai/pan with its lid. Cook the rice until all the water is absorbed on low flame.
10. Let the pressure settle down on its own and then open the lid of the cooker. With a fork, you can gently stir the rice without breaking the rice grains.
11. Garnish with finely chopped fresh coriander leaves and Matar Pulao is ready to serve. Enjoy it with raita, chutney or any curries with gravy.
