Black Chickpea Chat/ Kala Chana Chaat is a simple, easy, healthy and delicious chaat recipe made with boiled black chickpeas, potato or sweet potato, chaat chutneys and few spices. This is the perfect recipe whenever you have small hunger or want to eat something spicy. Here is the recipe with some tips and step by step instructions and pictures.
1. Firstly, heat 2 tsp oil in a pan/kadai and add 1 cup of boiled black chana. Continue to sauté for 2 minutes.
2. Keeping the flame on low, add ¼ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp red chili powder, ¼ tsp garam masala, ¼ tsp dried mango powder/ amchur, ½ tsp chaat masala and salt to taste.
3. Sauté on low flame until spices turn aromatic.
4. Mash off few chana to have a good texture.
5. Transfer the spiced kala chana to a bowl.
6. Then add boiled & cubed potato and sweet potato to it.
7. Next, add finely chopped onion, tomatoes, fresh green coriander and 4 mint leaves to it. If you have dry mint leaves then crush them or you can add 1/3 tsp mint powder.
8. Add 1 tbsp green chutney, 1 tbsp tamarind chutney, and 2 tbsp curd to it.
9. Mix well making sure everything is combined well.
10. Transfer the black chana over the plate for serving.
11. Top it with 1 tbsp curd, 1 tsp green chutney and 1 tsp tamarind chutney.
12. Then sprinkle 2 tsp finely chopped onion, 2 tsp tomato, 3 tbsp sev, 1 tsp coriander leaves and 2 pinches of freshly roasted cumin powder.
13. Black Chickpea Chat/ Kala Chana Chaat is ready to serve. Enjoy!
